DIAG: "Touch of Evil" Tracking Shot

This is a diagram I created that follows the opening tracking shot of Orson Welles', "Touch of Evil." The diagram posits the possible camera path through space, while taking note of the time during the sequence. This sequence was filmed in Venice, california but set in a U.S./Mexico border town.

This reminds me of similar work done by a group called ART + COM. They began to diagram a camera's movement through space and time, looking at the camera from a second vantage point to understand spatially how a scene unfolds. They also created physical models of these strange looking movements. The ultimate, 'I was here statement' taken further by I was here, and this is exactly what I looked at during the moments of time i was in this space.

Imagine using this to diagram urban explorations, linking instinctual observational camera movements into evidence of experience...

The explanatory video at this link and the other work they do is interesting to see as well.
